But how on earth can you rationally ( ie comparing performance, function, construction quality, equipment) justify the Plus 4 costing more than the new Boxter and the plus 8 costing more than a 911 carrera 4 cabriolet? Surely at present price levels, new Morgans are overpriced by some margin.

..I guess...Like most (non essential) things in life, they cost as much as people are prepared to pay for them.
Morgan aren't in the game of production numbers/volume pricing so, the rarer, the higher the price tag, I suppose.
If the product is good enough or desirable enough it will sell and if the number produced is low enough then the owners of these cars will be happy with their 'investment' at any price.
As long as Morgan keep making a great entry level car at a reasonably affordable price (like the 4/4), they will have a long term future.
I suppose I better start doing the lotto if I am ever going to experience a car like the new +8, but in the meantime I am very happy with my 4/4.
