So how come cars remain visible but not bikes?


From what I read, size does matter in this case. The brain removes images of smaller objects that appear to be stationery, they are not viewed as a danger. They don't "grow" much when heading straight at you (until it is too late). A car is bigger and will "grow" when seen from quite a distance, a danger, so your brain does not remove its image.
