25mpg is about right for an S1 for a mix if driving.
If you want to solve the air locking I can recommend replacing the fuel filler cap with the Simmonds milled aluminium one.
It works a treat, looks nicer and is more aerodynamic. I had one fitted to my s2 and it made filling up a whole lot easier..
