I do actually emery the inner surfaces occasionally which are now suffering light rusting, even with the dehumidifier. Apart from drying properly, the sticking and ghosting will remain a problem.
The problem with emerying is that the rusty particles float everywhere so it's messy. From time to time I paint the outer rim of the discs to try to keep this under control. It seems that the heat treatment which discs get as part of manufacture seems to stabilise the surface for a while, but once that has worn away, surface rusting is more evident. It's not much, and shows up worse by electric lighting. Maybe I should stop looking!
In my zealous days with the MG's, for winter I used to take the pads out and waxoyl the discs until spring. No problem if you do that, but it's a lot of effort to save the discs a bit longer.
In the good old days you could get your discs skimmed, and some discs would show the minimum allowed thickness in the casting. I didn't realise that my BGTV8 discs had been skimmed until I bought some new ones, but the difference in thickness was a bit scary.
