The risk resides with the manufacturer for 8 years though, which is more than most people will keep a car for anyway. It's just preying on people's fears rather than being any kind of semblance of good value. Most cars of a similar price point either include servicing or it can be added for a modest fee, how are people going to take to a new technology when they're being asked to 'lease' something as if it's not proven? Deceit, IMO, like being pushed an extended warranty after buying a dishwasher.
