Getting export plates is pretty straightforward. The factory is fully versed in doing that (or at least they used to be) you can drive in the UK for 6 months on them as well
That is true Brian but the factory charges for this service, you still have to organise temporary insurance, and you still have to organise your own registration and pay local taxes when you get it home (you are exempt from VAT in the UK but you can not avoid it in your home state). Fortunately for us the rules in Italy allow you to pay the tax, get the plates and insurance before going to pick up the car. This saved us quite a bit of cash.
