I have done pretty much the same only I used a Horsebox Trailer mudguard part number TTL.J01SE from www.truckandtrailerproducts.com . I kept the aluminium deflector and bolted the forward end of the mudguard to it at the level of the top side of the swing arm. All fairly straight forward and only a small amount of trimming to clear the drive belt.
