Check the breather on the fuel intake pipe. How it's routed can cause blow back. If you have a spare wheel, lift it out and you can see easily.
At my local garage, of the 4 unleaded pumps 2 blow back, 2 don't!
I checked with the manager and he told me that the flow rate of pumps do vary. So I tend to use the same pump when filling locally and it is pot luck when away. The same happened when we were on holiday in France, with some pumps filling without problem.
I always grab a handful of paper towels prior to filling and place a few below the filler, just in case!
