I have used some jewellers' rouge where I had used a nylon pot scrubber to get a splash of some sort of resin (sprayed off a passing truck) off my Alfa's windscreen. Unfortunately it was a new pot scrubber and more abrasive than I would have imagined. I won't do that again

It did a reasonable job but the scratches were fairly deep and there are still faintly visible marks.
I don't think you will do any harm. I used a new polishing buff and a battery driven drill. I have been thinking of having another go with the power drill. The buff did not leave any visible swirls. If the scratches are fairly light and somewhat localised it is probably worth trying. Be careful about getting a small section too hot. I was worried this may lead to cracking the glass.
Some of the professional glass people offer this service so it may be worth asking around.
