Peter, sounds very similar. Interestingly the 'professional' people did offer to do 'light scratches' for more than my glass insurance excess. They suggested I would be better off if 'someone' threw a brick at it because I have some deeper ones too! All repairs can cause 'lensing' which is distracting but insurance companies prefer that to replacement by all accounts.
Trying to avoid replacement and may have a go at DIY then.
