Do not use nylon scratch pads on Glass, but fine Steel Wool to remove any substances like paint overspray or the likes.
Do not use the wire wool on plastic, as for the Rain X and others your not removing the scratch your temporarily filling the scratch.
Rouge will work but in a minor way only, polishing out buff marks that wouldn't really effect your vision anyway, then a finishing Glass polish (autoglym).
For best results use the Brick method as suggested.
