All good information.
I don't have a 10k mile trip planned but was trying to see what the general consensus is on that type of travel. Last year, I did 9k miles in 10 days on a motorcycle, rode through every mountain range in the country and attended two different bike rallies (although briefly) on opposite ends of the country. Wasn't really going anywhere...just going. I logged about 60k motorcycle miles in 2013. Change the oil every 8k miles, final drive lube every other oil change and tires every 20-25k.
Having experience with and knowing its reputation, on a Gold Wing, when you climb aboard, you already know that the bike can handle anything you can dish out to it and the rider is the limiting factor. Frankly, it's 99.9% bullet-proof. I was just trying to figure out where the M3W fits on the bullet-proof scale based on your experience.
I'm certainly not opposed to doing some big mileage in the M3W and for me, it has much in common with long-distance riding...a self-inflicted hardship (cold, heat, rain, etc. with limited carrying capacity and little creature comforts). I hope when I'm through with it, it is a smoldering, worn-out heap as I didn't buy it for eye candy. Without harping too much about it, I have a little bit of a nagging feeling about the compensator and the bevel box. More so the compensator. After giving it a good hard run over +/- 150 miles on Sunday, it sounded kind of rough. Nothing like the one I heard in the video here but a far cry from quite especially considering the low mileage. Maybe if I go ahead and break it, I will feel compelled to fix it proper.
I was just trying to see who had some big miles on their M3W without it being familiar with a tow truck.
