Interesting to read. Apparently your in the UK are quite lucky.
Here in my German village, which is only 5 miles from the next larger city, I get 2.4 Mb through the German Telekom DSL, and this is the fastest cable connection that is available here. Shame.
In the same location I get 13 Mb via my mobile phone ...
