But won't an increase in torque/hp put the entire transmission (not sure about right word here) in even greater danger? It's not as if the M3W is considered safe from transmission issues so we can step up to greater engine power.
A very obvious concern, but I am working on the assumption that the restrictions in power are more to do with global legislation rather than longevity 'specifically' for the tranny etc. If my theory is correct and it does release the lost power, then it needs to be used responsibly, like all upgrades and tuning - a monkey can kill any car given enough abuse. If my theory comes to nothing then I get a more fruity sounding motoring experience with no additional load being generated, in which case I'll still be happy!
Clearly I am going to come a cropper one day, but I am probably over-optimistic in terms of built in over-engineering as I come from a project that supercharged a Fiat Panda 4x4 to produce exactly twice the power as it had stock. I'm 3 years and 20,000 miles in and it still fly's like a good'un on 100% stock everything else.
But I do take your point!
