Just a quick post that might help people in the future.
I was working on the 3W at the weekend; fitting a thermocouple with stainless braided cover for cylinder head temperature measurements and things got rather hot!
The thermocouple braid (other end earthed to cylinder head) had brushed the post circled in the photo which is permanent live direct to the battery and not insulated! There was a short and the braid got very hot very quickly. Gave me quite a fright.
It now sports an old rubber bung and some insulation tape so i don't inadvertently short the battery with something more effective and cause a fire.
