More possible is a design fault.I am told that on a Mondeo the fuel pump is well out of the way of any water. On a Morgan this is not the case.
The fuel pump casing has a shallow trough where the electrical plug connects. It is possible when driving in rain that this trough fills with water which somehow burns out not only the pump live terminal of the plug but also the terminal in the pump.
The pump plug is made by AMP (German )sealed connectors ( on-line cat. page 60 ) and are available from TE Connectivity in England. The problem is that to replace the plug properly one needs the correct ribbed wire inserts and expensive special crimping equipment. I purchased a s/h Mondeo plug from the breakers for £4 and soldered and heat shrinked the wires to the harness.
To prevent the same thing happening again I have duck taped around the pump.
