You can make the existing high level brake lamp much less obtrusive in terms of appearance, yet more effective, by replacing it with a clear LED integrated unit available as an aftermarket Landrover replacement part.

My car has been MOT'd twice with this brake light in place and has been passed without a problem. It looks about twice as bright as the original and comes on instantly, which should be a safety advantage.
