There is a new driving licence checking facility for holders of a UK licence. You can check the groups you are entitled to drive and any points.

UK driving licence
You will need both your driver number and your national insurance number. (Tip for NI number - look at a payslip or a tax return).

I think they'll use the fact this is in beta testing to cover up errors but if you live in the UK, have a full car licence with the driving test passed before 19 January 2013 any renewal of your licence should also show group A with note 79 (or to restricted to tricycles; same thing).

I tried tonight and according to them, I don't have it, so could only drive my Morgan in the UK under the derogation. I got somebody else to try who passed his test in 2010, and he gets the correct answer.

My UK licence therefore could lead to an arrest in France etc. I've left a valid email address and invited them to contact me, so I'll see if there is any comeback.

But I'd be extremely interested if any reader is in the same boat as me. Namely, passed UK car driving test prior to 19 January 2013 and does not have a motor cycle test pass. I may get this followed up, but I do need to know about the affected group - or is it just me?
