Knowing what I know, seeing what I've seen and in consideration of your "877" number...if I were you, I would drop what I was doing right now and run (not walk) go change the Bevel Box lube. Don't assume anything other than the worst. Any damage done due to lack of lubrication is irreversible. The Bevel Box doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell if it has the infamous goop in the box. Even after reaching high temperatures, the goop won't flow and it will starve the bearings and gears of lubrication. On my box, I measured temps in the 240-250*F range which is 30*F higher than what was measured on the engine's crankcase. I was able to lower the box temperature by 90*F by flushing and changing lubes...but it appears it was too little, too late on mine.

As a new owner of a M3W, you are about to embark on a great mechanical adventure. Dust off your spanners and proceed with caution. And just forget the fact that it is a new car.

This is the result of numerous lube changes after the "goop" was discovered...in M3W No. 859.

Don't go by any databases, range of M3W numbers or suspected build dates as no one (including Morgan) knows what's in your ride. On a compensator issue on my M3W, Morgan had no idea of what compensator I had, if it was fitted with a grease zerk or not or if the bell housing had been "hole sawed" or not by their records. Quaife (manufacturer of the Bevel Box built specifically for MMC) builds good products but no gears/bearings stand a chance of lasting without lubrication. Like most here, anything that is running gear lube isn't high on my priority maintenance list until I get quite a few miles on it...not the case here.

After dealing with these totally un-necessary issues (created by trying to cure a problem that wasn't really a problem to begin with), I wish my M3W looked like this under her skirt...
