Odd on my Roadster they drop like normal car. In fact the idle is so low & so quiet you think it has stalled.
I don't remember my 94 Zetec doing that but then it was chipped
I wish my V6 did...it used to do as described, but of late it refuses to drop to 800 or so, sits resolutly at 1300.

If I understand you right you are describing the same issue I posted one or two years ago as "rev hang" on my 2008 Series 2 Roadster, I drove until 2010. The only real and very good solution was that MMC changed the ECU via my dealer without charging any costs under warranty. After plugging in the new ECU the rev hang was completely gone and the car, as an add on benefit, delivered a much stronger and more willingly acceleration. Of course I don't know how MMC got this replacement ECU to work properly or if the knowledge to reprogramme it is "inhouse" still today or not.
