Much admired the fan at Brooklands and had a demo of it working. It certainly fires a decent amount of air at the engine and the warm air coming through the front proves that it's doing something. Brilliant piece of work and I want one (and the nice little box that sits on the gearbox cover).
Looks really neat too. Someone mentioned a concern that it clearly lets in water on a wet day into the under-cowl area. Perhaps the effect of moving air around under the cowl is worth this side effect as we all now know the oil tank gets hot. Or perhaps a water catcher of some sort could simply be positioned inside the cowl to stop any water getting further (battery, electrics) and be channelled towards the ground somewhere out of the way.
I suppose the Morgan Urban thingy is probably a well considered solution but it sure isn't pretty. Has anyone tried to make it look better (I did notice it seemed to have been painted on Bell & Colvill's demonstrator which was a small step in the right direction)?
Another idea that was discussed at Brooklands was an oil cooler which can only help to keep oil temperatures lower in what is effectively an air and oil cooled engine.
Or perhaps a Stop/Start system for traffic jams although I expect this is daft. I do sometimes turn mine off in traffic jams and try to coast down hills if the jam is on an incline... (and have never encountered skipfire mode which I take to be a good thing.)
Anyway, winter on its way here so perhaps not such an issue for the next few months! But - most of all - respect for this great piece of DIY.
