This has been on my “to do” list for a long time now. My fuel gauge has always been biased in one direction. When the tank is filled the needle remains hard pushed up against the end stop (almost out of sight) until I’ve used about 3 gallons, then it starts to fall normally. So I thought I would post my attempt at a bit of re calibration.
Step.1
Find a suitable potentiometer to put in series with the gauge. Fill the tank, start engine and adjust pot until the needle just comes up to the full point.
Step.2
Measure the pot.
Step.3
Source a fixed resistor of a similar value (15 Ohm) and attach to gauge.
The needle now looks better positioned when full. Only time will tell if it performs over the entire the range.
