Andy, I think many of the problems you have experience of are from Turbochargers of 20 plus years ago, things have moved on considerably, we had suggested under bonnet heat issues with several cars at Volvo that had Turbocharged versions post launch of the naturally aspirated versions, none of which came to fruition. The modern turbocharger recycles much of its heat as part of more efficient design and installation, intercoolers have improved also and no longer need to be massive auxiliary air radiators. If they can get a V6 and AC in there they can certainly get a 4 banger, turbo and intercooler in.
