I concur that heat shield is needed for that pipe above the manifolds.
I had to replace a similar pipe on my old 4/4 CVH as the pipe also went fairly near and above the manifold causing it to melt!
The intake was through the near side inner wing.
Also, that high position for the intake is a better one far water pick up safety.
I have a plus8 with polished stainless filter box that gets to a surface temp of 40C or above.. The trumpet goes towards my side louvres but just above them. So not getting really fresh air come in, just under bonnet air. Ideally some cold air directed to it would be nice. At the moment I can hear some induction noise as air gets sucked in when the bonnet is up, not very loud but definitely there!
I need to stop looking at these threads......giving me too much to think about and do!
