I am sitting in the UK with our Plus 4 and a good network of dealers and knowledgeable Talk Morgan members to offer advice and assistance. Unfortunately a friend of mine in South Africa (Western Cape) is not so lucky from the point of view of support so any advice on this subject would be helpful.
He has a Roadster which is a 2006 model with the Ford 3.0L V6 motor.
He suffered from the engine just cutting out on him. It would restart but not keep running without some ‘quick start’ sprayed into the air filter inlet.
He noticed that there wasn’t the usual buzzing coming from the fuel pump. As far as could be tested in the car, the pump had an electrical feed.
The pump has been removed from the car by a mechanic and bench tested. When tested on the bench, pumping fuel, it delivers a good flow for about 3 seconds and then the flow drops to a trickle, but the pump continues to run and make the normal noise.
He needs to know whether this means that the pump is defective or whether it goes into a safety mode when it does not find resistance to flow. Any ideas here please?
If the pump is defective, he needs to know which other vehicle uses this pump. Any suggestions please?
I will be enquiring via our Mog Dealer in the UK about the fuel pump as well in terms of price, availability etc. Should a faulty pump be the outcome of the deliberation and diagnosis then it would be much easier to source a pump in South Africa, if possible, rather than importing one from the UK.
