Yesterday I had the jubilee clip on the automatic gearbox hose tightened and levels checked. To be on the safe side I've booked the car in for a full service the week after next.
I believe this started a week or so ago when a suicidal pheasant went under the front wheel and then seemingly disappeared. My guess is the carcass went up, bounced around (knocking the hose) and fell out sometime later. Yuck...
