I'm wondering whether it might not be a good idea to transmit some of the load and vibration down to the chassis rail, rather than adding to the weight being carried by the aluminium skin? Forgive the rubbish sketch, but would it be worth considering something like this that could be bonded with something like Sikaflex to the chassis rail - always assuming it's reachable, of course.
