Hey guys I'm just as bad complaining about that tin of fluid but spent £20k on a garage extension and a two post lift.
Then you need a good oil drainer and if you have that you want a proper compressor and after making a mess filing up a gearbox that is hard to get to, you go and buy a proper tank and pump to fill gearboxes.
Ok, I have not bought the gearbox oil pump yet but have just returned a £40 1.5 litre Sealey gear oil syringe because it leaked like a sieve.
It appears unless it is at least over £150 most garage kit is just not up to it either quality wise or they are a bit crap to use.
Then even as an amateur you need a good stock of nuts, bolts, different size crush washers and extra pots of oil and filters as friends always turn up needing work done.
I reckon I must have £300 in consumables to allow me to do most jobs without running out of a miscellaneous consumable.
Looking at the real cost of running a proffessional workshop I find it difficult to see how many small garages can afford to run on £40 an hour.
