Michael - the 'expansion' section you mention is where the CATs live and anything you can do to increase the heat build-up in those will mean the emissions will be lower and keep the authorities even happier! I wrapped mine right back to the slip joint with the main silencer, as it made it look better in my view, as well as encourage quicker CAT warm-up too.
