I used to have a Dolomite Sprint in the old days which had a pre-engaged starter motor. It did a similar thing and it was generally down to lack of grunt due to either low battery or the motor eventually failing and needing replacing.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
