I have the same problem with the centre windscreen lifter on the toneau mainly due to lack of use.
Back in the 1960's (yes I am that old) the trick with my old Berkeley 3 wheeler was to open both doors and have some one sit inside. That took the tension off of the fasteners.
Only good for taking the hood off because if you did that when putting it on there was no way you could close the doors after.
