This is quite similar to cutting a hole in the tunnel to access the front propshaft grease nipples, which is currently being discussed on mogtalk. Both mods look well worth doing and one has to wonder why something "made by hand" can't be made in the right place (or even made at all!)
My current pet hate though is the tool tray...
