Indeed - plus of course we now have the ability to manufacture engines to extremely high standards. Properly looked after, they will last for truly enormous mileages.

It would be hugely cynical of anyone to imagine that by extending the service intervals, manufacturers are knowingly shortening the service life of their engines under the guise of reducing running costs.

After all, why would they do that? It would mean their engines wear out more quickly than would otherwise be the case, leading to owners having to buy new cars more frequently. innocent
