On the aeromax, and I would think an Aero is fairly similar, there is a small aluminium lip riveted just before the oil filter.
However, I have damaged twice the filter housing, a piece of plastic with an exchangeable filter. It snapped once, leaving all the oil out in no time, luckily that happened on the driveway of a garage, an another time when doing oil change the internal of that plastic housing was found broken
As well the plate covering the dry sum can be damaged reasonably easily and I change it everything there is a little damage, to avoid oil starvation as the pump is very close
A sump wouldn t give more safety i am afraid and would reduce a lot the ground clearance
