With the lever arm shock, mountings brackets were on the U spring shackles but replacing the lever arm shocks with telescopic mine has a shaft welded onto the bottom U bolt mounting plate. Might help to locate the rear axle. Presumably you have the small drum brakes for the handbrake or have your engineers used the discs some way as the handbrake. Interestingly that you find it much more stable.
Would be interested to see some pictures of the setup including the disc brake conversion. My 77 +8 has only a single brake system with booster, my mates was a 93 +8 and he had the dual system but there was enough room to put in two master cylinders with a balance bar.
