IMHO.....
Have to agree that web-based is better than e-mail based. With web-based, you can pick and choose your topics but with e-mail based, the whole lot hits your in-box regardless.
E-mails with a content of "Oh yes, I quite agree" might as well be spam, and push me towards "I can't be bothered to read any more of this!"
I move my Forum e-mails to a folder before I read them and I daren't say here how many un-read items there are in there!
Yes, there may be some useful info in Forum e-mails but I frequently lose the will to live before I get to anything useful.

For those who ask "Why don't you just delete the e-mails?", the answer is that there may be a nugget in there which is relevant to a problem I have encountered. With web-based, it should be under the related topic....
