Have you seen the solution from Mulfab.co.uk to correct bump steer? Have a look at their site. Appreciate they are a long way from Seattle, nevertheless their solution seems less involving.
Not sure if it applicable to your situation, as your's is pre 2000. Around that time MMC changed track rod end from above to below the steering arm.on their site are pictures.
