You learn something every day don't you.

I was born in Southampton but I never knew that Spitfires were built there. No doubt that doubled its value as a target for German bombers during the war.

I left Southampton at 1½ years old and until about 10 years ago, as far as I know, I had not been back. I was astonished to see quite large areas in the city where reconstruction has not taken place.

I must get a copy of the old photograph to see if the building, my first home, still exists. There is a building on the site but it seems to be different to that which existed in 1948.
