When I started doing VAT audits in the mid seventies, milk rounds were highly sought after businesses. With the right locality they made a lot of money, and it was reliable.
Supermarkets killed that golden goose.
Even though we have a One Stop shop 300 yards around the corner from us we are happy to pay more and support our local milkman.
Hmm, I love the fact that it was a 'person' that came regularly to your door, but we opted out of deliveries I recall, mainly due to not being home soon enough to stop the milk turning in the days heat.
I know it's an udder sign of the times, but the convenience of larger bottles outweighs the deliveries for me I'm afraid.
