It's about time that the government changed the law and moved into the 21st century. If the light from the LED bulbs is not too dim nor too bright, is of the correct colour and can be seen from the designated angles then it shouldn't matter two hoots which bulb is used.
These criteria should all be checked in the MOT test. An example is of my tin top that has orange coloured tungsten filament indicator bulbs and on which the orange lacquer had deteriorated with age; MOT failure as the light was the wrong colour.
