Apparently why the 4+4 2007 Heater Knob type is so difficult to turn on and off (4 clicks) is that it is attached to a very long cable that winds around and back into the heater. This cable has to be twisted to operate the heater temperature control.
Stop moaning you two!
Just be glad you have all the mod cons; the previous model had this set up...
