Frank - I would cut the carpet, otherwise it's a faff to remove for cleaning. It will easily screw to the floor, but a pin chuck makes this much easier.
Lightsphere - you can stop that annoying rattle by fitting some double sided tape (but leaving the plastic film in place for the roller) - covered in one of my previous threads.
Ivo - what's it good for?? dunno, never had just the roller, but painted it looks gorgeous.......
