If on balance you are happier with your new car than your old one then you made the right decision. Like most things in life these decisions are about compromise....you gain some things and you lose some things....having everything exactly to your liking is, as you already know I'm sure, not always possible - especially where motor vehicles are concerned.
I have to say that I sometimes think that I might have been better off with a different car, especially when I get caught out in the rain (and am faffing about trying to put the hood up by myself) or when I'm trying to find somewhere reasonably secure to park the car for the night etc; but then when the sun shines and the road is clear, life with the car just becomes better again. I am pretty sure I could get 80% of the Morgan experience with something else that was less limiting and more convenient but for the time being I can live with the limitations and inconveniences in exchange for the joy it brings me (though I still hanker after a M3W for more sensory overload!).
I have to say that on a recent tour in less than lovely weather the Morgan experience was beginning to wear a bit thin and I came home thinking that what I really needed was a GT type car for touring and long journeys, and a day car for sunshine blasts around the local area/region. The M3W or a 4/4 would fit the bill for the latter and I am still undecided about the former as there is just so much choice - and I tend to think that I would like to experience them all just for the fun of it.
I also think that you are right to 'vote with your feet' if you do not feel that you are getting the appropriate level of service - though it is extremely sad that you should have got to that point in the first place. I can only hope that MMC do take notice of the dissatisfaction that a good many customers seem to be experiencing. For the pleasures that Morgan ownership can bring, most enthusiasts will accept that they are paying £45-60k for £20-25k worth of raw material and parts, that are fashioned and assembled into the most basic of cars; it is the price you pay. But equally, the customers quite rightly expect the cars to work properly out of the box, and if they don't, for someone to address the issues quickly and efficiently. At present it would appear that it is the last two issues that cause the problems. The traditionals are not concept cars, they are an evolution - and a pretty basic one at that - so one might think that it would not take a team of rocket scientists to get it right.
So, as it stands you have made the right choice for you. I can only hope that things improve sufficiently in Morganland that you are tempted back into one in the future.
