Depending on your intentions with cleaning the car there are lots of good ways to proceed. Many have been suggested here. Another suggestion, however, used for my show cars, is not to use tap water. Water spots come from minerals in the water. Use only distilled or purified water (e.g. no minerals) to a get a spot free clean.
