I ran a Saab 9-3 convertible for a couple of years. It was probably the fastest, most comfortable, most watertight, most spacious car with the easiest of convertible roofs that I've owned and now my kids have less big plastic toys and push-chairs to be carried everywhere one of them might get quite high on the list. Or (reminded by cerealsurfer's post below) maybe "upgraded" to a recent BMW 3-series convertible with the folding hard-top.
Another option would be a LR Discovery or Range Rover - I love the Defender I own at the moment but it's not best for long journeys with the family and doesn't give what you might call a 'spirited' performance. But the load-lugger ability is very welcome and the off-road ability provides fun in the right places and has been very welcome these past few weeks.
If I has no family to worry about then a sports-car - maybe a modern Morgan. From my MG days I know that I can adapt myself to live/travel within the constraints offered by the vehicle (creative packing again).
One of the deciding factors would always be whether the car would automatically make me a member of an exclusive club the way MGs, Land Rovers and Morgans do.
But I'm sorry - I can't make up my mind right now.
