I suspect the photo was taken on an iPhone. Macs are able to interpret the photograph metadata to ensure photographs are displayed the correct way up regardless of the orientation of the iPhone when the picture was taken. Other systems do not, as they don't look for this additional metadata.
Best fix is to manually rotate the picture in another picture editor before loading to TM. You can prevent it happening in future by making sure the iPhone lens is at the top when taking pictures, this is the orientation that is considered to be 'correct'. [/quote]
Thanks for this tip. It was actually taken on an iPad and then transferred to the mac - all in correct orientation - and uploaded to TM from the mac. However I do use the iPad with the lens in the lower corner position, so perhaps that's where the problem lies.
