It seems that this is a common problem on S1's! According to the factory skimming, presumably off the car, hasn't worked for them hence I haven't tried it.
My 'skimmer' is in Ruthin, a scenic 3 1/2 hour drive for you. I'm sure they must be someone down south for you though? Try the motorsports specialists.
