While I'm still working, I will always have a modern car. When it's a cold and dark November morning, chucking down with rain, and I have to be 100 miles away for an 08:30 meeting, the Morgan is always going to stay tucked up in the garage.
But when I'm retired, and able to choose when I travel, then I'm fully intending to just keep the Morgan as my main car.
Its not as easy to make it work as you might think. When I stopped work my wife had a saloon car and I had the Lotus and a bike, using the bike as everyday transport. I should add that the bike has panniers and a top box so at least as much luggage capacity as a trad and probably more. Nevertheless, i found myself borrowing SWMBOs saloon car more and more, particularly in the winter weather. Either I needed 4 seats or to carry soimething long for diy, or something dirty from the boat or something heavy. Or more often I had to drive boring motorway miles when either bike or two seater sports cars are a drag not a pleasure.
There is a lot to be said for a boring reliable econonbox.
