Please see below an extract from an earlier post of mine entitled "Mods to my M3W"
I have always considered it useful to know what the oil temperature and pressure is at any time, and to this end I have mounted an SPA digital dual display gauge on the dash so that it is visible through the steering wheel.
The guage is connected to the sender units which are mounted in a sandwich plate that mounts between the oil filter and the engine casting.

This consists of a pair of 140mm diameter SPAL fans mounted on a vertical stainlees steel plate with the fans positioned one behind each cylinder.
http://i61.tinypic.com/2zgc969.jpghttp://i60.tinypic.com/1twsa8.jpgThe fans blow onto the cylinders and seem to work well. They are wired independant of the ignition and are switched on by a switch under the dash when I see the temperature gauge going over about 90�C.
