It avoid to swirls, keep away from sponges and circular polishing.
Protection film is tricky because it's a soft surface.
On MGB rubber bumpers I used multi layers of a simple wax and they were gloss black. I would try the same thing on protection film with maybe some polish to start but only light pressure. If it gets hot you're in trouble I suspect.
